The gallery was empty when I arrived — just the sound of my own steps on concrete. I sat with my coffee and opened my sketchbook to a blank page, and for a moment, I wasn't performing anything. I was just here. The light through the north windows was flat and even, the kind that doesn't lie. I drew the shape of the chair, then my hands, then the particular way the shadows fell across my own knees. Some days the sketchbook captures the day. Some days it captures you.

The apartment was empty except for the light. I sat with my sketchbook for twenty minutes before I picked up the pen — just watching how it moved across the pale wood floor. There's a kind of stillness here that doesn't ask anything of you. I drew the window. Then I drew the shape the window made. By the time we started, I had filled three pages with things that aren't in the photograph. That's always the way.

There's a particular silence that lives between the lights going up and the first frame clicking. I sat with my sketchbook today — familiar weight, familiar blank page — and let the moment exist without rushing toward the next. These pauses are where I find myself still drawing, still noticing. The light shifted through the window, and I captured nothing but the quiet. That feels like enough.
